"Support Phone Calls during Covid"

About: Kilbryde Hospice Lindsayfield Lodge

(as a carer),

My mum had been attending choir and tai-chi at the hospice before going on the 12 week out-patient programme which she absolutely loved. Covid interrupted this but staff continued to call once a week. During the first 7 weeks of lockdown, mum lived with our family but as her care needs increased dramatically she sadly had to be placed in care. This has been a roller-coaster of emotions for all of us and the calls from staff at the hospice were welcomes. Staff understood and empathised and this was invaluable at times. Thank you for your care.

Dear AnneG

Thank you for taking the time to post your story on Care Opinion. As Clinical Services Manager, I know how hard our clinical team have been working to continue to support patients and their families at home during COVID-19 so to get this feedback is wonderful. I am very glad that this support has been of benefit to you and your Mum while she was at your home. It's great to hear that your Mum enjoyed attending our community choir, tai chi and subsequently our Day Service programme. It sounded as though she had some benefit from it.

Your very positive feedback on our service is so reassuring. During this time of uncertainty and different ways of working, staff will be glad to hear it is welcomed. I will pass this feedback onto all those involved in your Mum's care. This will give them a great boost.

You mentioned your Mum is in a care home now. You as as family, have done a fabulous job in keeping your Mum at your home for as long as you did. I'm glad that Kilbryde could smooth some of the loops on the roller coaster of emotions..

Please take care of yourself and if we can help in any other way in the future please do not hesitate to contact us at the hospice.

Kind regards

Margaret Mary Cowan

Clinical Services Manager
