At 49yrs of age I experienced my first ever seizure this week while sleeping. My husband called paramedics during my seizure so I was woken by them when my fit ended. It took the ambulance less than a minute to attend and took control immediately.
Once they stabilised me I was taken to hospital. The paramedics where amazing. They reassured me I was safe and kept me talking. They were very professional but in a kind, caring manner. I keep getting flashbacks to when they woke me up but how they handled the situation then calms me down rather than dwelling on the events.
Once at A&E then CAU...the quality of care and service remained above and beyond expectations. the doctors and nurses were caring, polite and respectful. Their preparation work was done prior to talking to me and then explained everything to a fine detail to lessen my confusion. Tests were done quickly and results returned just as quick. Every carer throughout my time there called me by name and talked to me face to face and gave me all the time needed.
There were very challenging , aggressive sounding patients in some of the booths but every member of staff remained calm and polite throughout.I was kept fed and provided with anything I asked for and no request was too silly for the caterer. Even with cleaning tasks being scrutinised during COVID time, the cleaner was cheery and chatty and relaxed me further.I have had various ops over the years in various hospitals so I am not naive to what staff have to endure. At times you do see them overworked, understaffed and lack of beds and the occasionally grumpy person but not this week. Each and every person working on me or surrounding patients excelled in their work and care of others.
I am home now but still feel I have an unfinished job as I didn't thank everyone as much as I feel I need to express. I hope they know the impact they have on people they treat. They are my heroes.
"They are my heroes"
