"Mental health care"

About: North Ayrshire Health & Social Care Partnership / Community Mental Health Team (Adult)

(as the patient),

I required counselling for issues that I could not deal with on my own. These were causing both anxiety and depression. At the worst point I was unable to leave my house, and unable to do even the most simple things without being overcome by emotion.

I have taken antidepressant medication on and off for decades, and worked through online counselling arranged  through my GP. This helped to a degree but I still required more input.

In the last few years I have also had physical health problems to deal with. These added to my problems overall. I realised that I needed more help, and through my GP attended  one to one mental health counselling sessions at the local hospital (Ayrshire Central) for a period of six months. These sessions had a very positive impact,  and guided me towards a more accepting, hopeful outlook when dealing with past and ongoing issues.

Overall my counsellor (Caroline) and the sessions she provided were excellent, and I would urge anyone with similar problems to make use of this vital service.
