"Good and some worries"

About: Salisbury District Hospital

I visited with my wife on Wednesday, 18th March for a 2.00 pm appt. We were seen promptly, told that we were attending the Virtual EMD Clinic. The eye test completed in 5 minutes and drops put in prior to imaging. Then had to wait 30 minutes for a retinal scan and retinal photography. No explanation why we had to wait that long but we were grateful because we were out in 50 minutes - very quick compared to previous visits. So, good marks for that.

A worrying detail during our 30 minutes sitting, watching, was the people who came in without using the hand sanitiser on the reception desk. About 12 people came in to the reception desk but half of them did not clean their hands nor were invited to by the receptionists. A number of the chairs in the waiting areas have arms which are perfect vectors for viruses from unclean hands. Two ladies came in and used the toilets - touching the handles without hand hygiene. Disappointing.

Thank you for your feedback Richard; delighted that your clinical care was good but disappointed that your fellow patients did not make use of the hand sanitiser, putting themselves and others at risk. All surfaces in the room (including the chairs) are cleaned carefully by our Housekeeping staff but it is sad that hygiene measures in other patients were not evident when you visited. We have shared your feedback with Eye Clinic staff
