"Finally having the correct medication"

(as a service user),

I have had Bi-Polar for 19 years and thanks to NHS for eventually finding the medication that agrees with me.

I have had my rollercoaster I have been sectioned 7 times the longest stretch I spent in hospital was 9 months since they got the correct medication I have not been sectioned for 12 years thank goodness.

Because the Government are cutting benefits and trying to save money,

I have been discharged from psychiatry however I am still a vulnerable disabled adult and services are discharging a lot of vulnerable adults because the government has instructed the NHS to do so.

Its a scary world and with little support its terrifying, I feel it wont be long before I completely slip through the net.

Its now about survival.

Thank you for taking the time to share your feedback about services. It is good to hear you feel you are now on an effective treatment and that your mental health has been stable for a significant period of time.

Prior to discharge, anyone involved with mental health services will have been reviewed on a case by case basis by the multi-disciplinary team to assess their current mental health and level of risk. I would like to reassure you that should you feel your mental health is deteriorating then support will be accessible to you.

NHS Dumfries and Galloway’s public website provides information, help and advice about mental health and wellbeing during the COVID-19 pandemic. For most people this is sufficient to manage their mental health and wellbeing now and in the weeks and months ahead. If you feel that you need further information, help or advice you can contact your GP and they will refer you into our new wellbeing hub. Alternatively you can call the hub and leave a message for someone to call you back. The hub staff can be contacted on 01387 244495. Please note the hub is staffed Monday to Friday, 9.00am to 5.00 pm. The hub uses telephone and NHS Near Me secure video conferencing to share advice and guidance.

If you feel you need more intensive support you can also contact your previous CMHT who will be able to offer advice/support over the phone, signpost you to partner agencies or web resources for support, or if there has been a major deterioration in your mental health the CMHT will arrange further input.

However, if you are feeling overwhelmed or distressed and need to speak to a mental health professional urgently, you can contact DGRI Switchboard on 01387 246246 and, depending on your place of residence, your call will be forwarded to either the East Community Mental Health Service or the West Community Mental Health Service.
