"Remote consultation success"

About: General practices in Greater Glasgow & Clyde New Victoria Hospital / Day surgery

(as the patient),

Visited nurse at first to look at a lesion on the back of my hand, but was passed to a doctor who decided I should be referred to consultant. I was quite happy about this but expected to wait several weeks at best for an appointment.

Within 8 days I was notified of an appointment only four weeks away (Mid April). I then received a cancellation letter in the first week of April, due to the coronavirus lockdown procedures. I expected this and was prepared to wait for some time before things progressed but was surprised, on the next day, to receive another notification of an appointment, with a different doctor at a different time on the same day.

But I also received an email from this doctor, Dr Wylie, asking if I could send him a picture of my lesion. I did this the same day and promptly received a reply, with his opinion on the problem and suggesting some initial treatment. The necessary prescription had already been sent to my GP and they contacted me by phone to let me know they had it and it was being sent to a pharmacy - I stress that this was all done on the same day!

I feel that this is an outstanding service and everyone involved deserves the highest praise.

Hello Faster Consultation,

Thank you for taking the time to share your lovely feedback with us. I'm sorry that your first appointment was cancelled but I'm so pleased to hear of the excellent service you received during your remote consultation. I am glad that you found it to be efficient and that you were able to receive treatment quickly.

I will pass on your kind words to all of the staff in the hospital service, and to Dr Wylie in particular. I'm sure they will be delighted to hear them!

I notice that you've also tagged GP practices in your post - they have a different process for receiving feedback than our acute (hospital) services. If you would like, I would be delighted to pass your lovely feedback on to them. You could drop me an email with the name of your practice at Rachel.pyle@ggc.scot.nhs.uk or if you would prefer to do it directly, you can find details of how to contact them on their website.

Thank you again for taking the time to share your lovely post with us.

All the very best,

Rachel
