"Extremely poor"

About: Allambie Court

My dear old late Mum was unfortunate enough to be a resident at this establishment. She had dementia, could not walk and was visually impaired due to macular degeneration. There is no stimulation such as music or one to one engagement from staff with the residents. Occasionally they have a singer in but nothing daily. My cousin and I visited several times when the meals were being served. We saw her with a tray on her lap struggling to eat. When we enquired why she was not sitting in a chair at a dining table we were advised there was insufficient space and chairs ... absolutely disgraceful. Furthering I never saw any fresh fruit provided. I was told that as the patients had dementia this could not be left out for them to help themselves. I could understand their point but why did the staff not supervise residents on a one to one basis? On far too many occasions I saw other residents wearing her clothes despite these being marked with her name! I got extremely upset to see her sitting in a pair of men’s socks rather than her slippers or shoes. Visits at 1030 hours found her still in bed due to insufficient staff. This happens on a regular basis. I would advise anybody who even thinks about placing a loved one her to call as they say your welcome “anytime”to see the food they eat, check if there is any music or stimulation such as conversation with the staff and residents. Do not let the staff know when your visiting to ensure that you get a true picture of the home. You will also find they do not book you in and out so if there is a fire.......well who knows what might happen. They are supposed to have residents outings but these usually land up being cancelled. Reads the Care Quality Commission’s reports for the past three years. Wish I had done. Not to be recommend at all!
