"Terrible first time hospital experience "

About: Leicester Royal Infirmary

Maternity building, ward 6. I had my beautiful baby girl delivered by Gemma (felt amazing) and to be put on ward 6 completely ruined my big day and first experience in hospital. I arrived on ward around 9am on the 27.01.2020

Please see bullet points below, not even all that was an issue that day, not enough characters.

•Made it very clear I wanted to leave at 9am

•There were sick babies and mums around me and my baby (we were not sick) which made me paranoid and stressed. I am only on this ward as I did lose a little more blood than expected during delivery.

•As soon as I came onto the ward I asked for my cannula to be removed, it was making me feel uneasy and it hurt a lot. I asked numerous times and was fobbed off all day. They removed my cannula at around 9pm

•Communication is appalling between staff and patients and staff and staff

•I had slightly high blood pressure (reason for not wanting to discharge me-again told to me at 9pm when my cannula was being taken out) but I kindly stated (All throughout the day) that this was my first time in hospital, I do not feel comfortable, my cannula was hurting me, my stitches were stinging that much I couldn’t sit or lay down on this uncomfortable bed. And my anxiety was on overdrive but nurse was only interested in her machine results all day. My blood pressure remained slightly high all day. Still thinking about this day in general makes me very mad

•Dinner lady was rude, I did not have a menu (didn’t know what was available to eat) and she didn’t make it clear who she was and was so cross I did not know.

•Also on her second round, again had no menu so did not know what was available. I had two jacket potatoes that day.

•Visiting hours 2-4 came and the lady on the front desk was so miserable. I wanted to go in the family room to announce my baby name to my parents and in-laws. Told me it was two visitors at one time (first I heard of this-again no communication) and wouldn’t let our parents in together. Ruined my vision completely. And to top this off she stated ‘on non busy days the rule is relaxed and we turn a blind eye’. There was no one about.

•All day the nurses were having a laugh round the main desk, chatting away.

•At around 3 pm a “ill” lady got moved next to me, and she demanded all lights to be switched off as she wanted to sleep. I sat in complete darkness with every curtain around me closed.

•At around 8.30pm I got very upset with how my day was going so tried to get some sleep. A lady was bought in with her birthing partner, 2 young kids, what seemed to be mum and dad. I had no rest as kids were running up and down the beds, the visitors were so loud talking (not visiting hours btw) and I had no sleep.

•9.pm and still here, went to desk and announced I will be leaving shortly. Finally 11pm ish came and I was allowed to leave. 11pm. Shocking.

Will not be going to LRI again. EVER
