"St Luke's offers you hope and freedom"

About: St Lukes Hospice

(as a staff member posting for a patient/service user),

St Luke's hospice has been fantastic to me.  Before coming to the hospice for the first time I was anxious and thought that you only came to a hospice to die.  That impression changed the day I met Caroline, Sister in the Woodgrange centre.  My eyes were opened to what hospice care is about and my anxiety melted away.

I have had the opportunity to access support from multiple services across the hospice.  I have found acupuncture and massages beneficial and been helped with my mobility by the physiotherapists providing me with a walking stick.  The patient family support service have assisted me with adaptations at home to make living there easier. The hospice activities coordinator provides various activities such as baking, choirs coming in to perform and gardening.  Currently I am enjoying looking at flowers blooming in the hospice garden that I helped to plant.

St Luke's offers you hope and freedom.  There is nothing to be afraid of.  The staff are all wonderful.  I want to say that Dr Delgado has been great in helping with my pain management during my recent stay on the inpatient unit.  It was my first stay in the inpatient unit and I didn't want to go home!

Hello. Thank you for taking the time to share your experience of St Lukes Hospice on Care Opinion. The Woodgrange Centre is the base for St Luke's Hospice day services. For many people, like yourself, their first introduction to hospice services will be day services. As a hospice team, we work hard to create a welcoming and positive environment as we recognise that this can be a very daunting, uncertain, and anxious time for patients and families. I am delighted to hear that you feel your anxiety melted away.

As a team, we work hard to ensure our assessment and care is person-centered and specific to the needs of the individual, this can be anything from physiotherapy to improve confidence and independence, medication review to improve symptom management or gardening activities to enhance mental and emotional well-being.

Once again I would like to thank you for your feedback which I will share with other members of the team
