"Disappointing service and condescending GP"

About: The Penrhyn Surgery

I have been unwell for over the past five weeks. I felt so unwell that had to skip work a few times, over that time. I only managed to get an appointment 4 weeks later with the GP, only to be condescended This clinician who saw me for the first time in my life had made a hypothesis about my physical wellness before I got in to the room, based on my medical history on my record. Yes, I have had depressive episodes and I am one of the many people living with mental health issues, but when I am unwell physically, as the owner of my body, I am aware, in tune and I can separate that from when I am unwell as in depressive or as in an anxiety attack, or distressed period. Other points in the doctor's monologue included "..." how stress manifests in other ways - I have no chest pains, "..." I have been examined and nothing was found".." - only my blood pressure was taken on the day after I requested it, so no examination by this doctor (last time the nurse took my blood pressure, temperature and cheked my ears, that was 4 weeks ago), "..." how low blood pressure doesn't cause diziness "...", ".."how men are warriors and women like his wife are sensitive "...", and therefore all my problems stem from me being anxious and an imaginary patient "..". At that point I decided I had enough of doctor-plaining for the day, and I can just change the practice I am registered in. Only person that treated me as an adult and showed compassionate care there, was the health visitor who did my check up at the start. Avoid if you want to actually have a doctor that helps you live a healthy life. I write this review as I left from this doctor feeling worse than when I went.

This is extremely sad to hear and we are very sorry that we missed the oppurtunity to rectify the situation and you are now registered with another Surgery. We are thankful for sharing your experience on NHS choices and letting us know how you felt after your consultation with one of our GPs. I would like to invite you to talk about this with our Senior Manager. Please do contact us on 02085272563 and ask for suzia who will arrange a meeting for you.

We would certainly discuss your feedback in one of our team meetings. We are always actively looking to improve our services and this is certainly not the attitude we would expect from our clinicians. We apologise and wish you all the best in your current practice.

Many thanks

Management team
