"Cancer Diagnosis by letter"

About: Dumfries & Galloway Royal Infirmary / Cancer care and Oncology

(as a relative),

My father has been diagnosed today with cancer and found out by letter . I’d like to know what is patient centred about this .

He's been calling chasing biopsy results for 4 weeks to be told by a member of staff that his letter is in the post , and to please speak to his GP if he has questions, and then they promptly hung up on him. Of course he has questions, he has been told he has cancer.

Is it policy to break bad news by letter? Without the human touch ? In my opinion this is a huge fail in your nhs core values .
