My elderly mother in law became quite poorly and we decided to take her to A&E. She was so breathless that she was unable to walk. There was no wheelchairs anywhere but a kind and caring Doctor helped my daughter find a chair so we could get her to triage.
She was seen within 20 minutes of booking in and from then on everyone dealt with her so well. We were so grateful to all staff that dealt with her. The department was extremely busy and it was clear that staff were very busy. However all staff behaved with great professionalism kindness and skill.
There was a no sense of staff being too busy to help and the nurses were smiling and responsive. We were particularly grateful to Linda who kept us informed of what was happening, responded to our concerns and gave us time and space to discuss any issues. She raised with us the issue of DNR in a sensitive and constructive way. Not an easy thing to manage well ! The medical staff were really good and reassuring making us feel as if they had listened and formed a plan which was communicated clearly.
It’s never easy coming to A&E because it means my mother in law is quite unwell but it’s so much better when you feel that the situation is well assessed and there is a clear plan.
