"Surgery Great, The Rest Dire"

About: Royal Stoke University Hospital

I was brought from Leighton Hospital to have a pacemaker fitted. Leighton had been told I was in the list for the morning list. I was woken at 5am but transport from Stoke only turned up around 9am. I wasn’t taken to theatre until 1pm. No food or drink offered. I was ready to leave before 3pm. I was told my transport had been ordered. I asked more or less every hour about transport. At 6pm I was told I could be waiting up to another 8hours! At 9pm, still waiting, I spoke to another nurse who discovered my transport had Not been ordered. She managed to stop an ambulance on its way out. They came back for me and took me back to Leighton. I was given a leaflet about my pacemaker which said I must not leave without my pacemaker I.D. Card. I had to leave with no card, no after care information and no-one had checked to make sure I was ok. If I had not asked for a drink and something to eat around 3pm, although it didn’t arrive for several hours, I would have been left all day with nothing. It’s a disgrace all round.
