"Vulnerable patients left without care"

About: Jubilee Medical Centre

Following my fathers eye surgery the hospital told us to contact our gp for support with his aftercare, drops bring needed four times a day. Asked at the surgery what was available could we contact a district nurse. The look of downright disgust appalled me, the receptionist totally shut down, her eyes narrowed and she asked why gruffly, I explained he has Alzheimer’s and can’t see out the other eye. She said she would call them and they would call us. Not even five minutes later she called back and said no they couldn’t help, district nurses work on commission now and don’t do daily healthcare they don’t even do blood pressure checks or injections. She suggested we ask neighbours to help, or try social services. She clearly knew this when I asked face to face but didn’t want that conversation. we know social services can’t help as carers can’t provide medical assistance, been there before. Shocked and appalled at lack of patient care. Not the first time here either. Three years ago they were meant to be overseeing my mother who was diagnosed with early onset dementia. From date of diagnosis to the date she went into hospital for the third time her gp only saw her once, and that was to say shes very dehydrated probably won’t last the night, leaving her older husband on his own not knowing what to do next. we got her into hospital ourselves and she lived for another three years. he would have let her die in absolute agony and distress.
