"Emergency care"

About: Aberdeen Royal Infirmary / Emergency Medicine

(as a relative),

I accompanied my mother to A&E at ARI late in the evening. The care she received on admission was very good, especially from staff nurse Christabelle who remembered my mother from a recent appointment at the fracture clinic. Christabelle took time to chat to her patient but also to myself and my father, making sure we knew what was happening and when she saw my father was clearly struggling with the situation she took the time to make him a cup of tea and sat chatting to my father while I stayed with my mother. This really was a fantastic example of patient and family centred care and helped my family at a very difficult and stressful time. The doctor and other nurses looking after my mother were also very kind and understanding despite being extremely busy.

Dear JMA,

Thanks for taking the time to contact us via Care Opinion to tell us about you and your families experience at A&E.

It's lovely to read that staff nurse Christabelle took that bit of extra time with your mum and dad helping them feel more informed and comfortable with the situation – a cup of tea and a chat should never be underestimated! The team at A&E always aim to do their best and I’m glad their kindness and understanding helped in you all through a stressful time.

I’m responding as a member of the Quality Improvement & Assurance Team – just while the team at A&E are helping with the management of the Covid-19 outbreak. However, the Nurse Manager for the A&E team has viewed your story and will share with Christabelle and the team.

I hope your mum is on the mend.

Take care,

Kirsten
