"Extended hospital stay"

About: Victoria Hospital / General Medicine Victoria Hospital / General Surgery

(as the patient),

I was sent to the hospital for what my doctors thought would be a one-week course of IV antibiotics. It turned out to be a 3-week stay which included major abdominal surgery and various complications.

I am writing now in order to commend the staff on the ward where I was treated. I was extremely unwell, but my memories of my hospital stay are all very positive, because of the care I received and the way I was treated. I am thinking in part of the many doctors and specialists I met. They listened well, treated me with respect, and gave excellent care. But I'm thinking  more specifically of the nurses and assistants in Ward 32 of the Victoria Hospital, who were  lovely, professional, sympathetic, extraordinarily competent, and human at every turn.

Dear Actinomycosis,

Thank you so much for the lovely feedback you have given about your recent unexpected extended stay within the hospital. It sounds like you have been in the right place for your initial plan to be given some IV Antibiotics which then turns into you requiring major abdominal surgery. It must have been an extremely worrying time for you and it says a lot that you can say that the memories of your hospital stay are all very positive because of the care you received and the way you have been treated. It is so important for the staff to know that the care they have been able to give has made an impact, it is very motivational and also confirms that they have the right approach to patient care. We strive to give good quality patient centred care which relies on the skill of the staff being able to listen effectively and uphold dignity through giving respect to all patients. Many Health Care professionals read Care Opinion and it is hoped that all staff involved in your care will recognise the part they have played in your care delivery.

I will gladly share your post with the nurses and assistants in Ward 32 of the Victoria Hospital, who will be proud to be described as lovely, professional, sympathetic, extraordinarily competent and human at every turn.

Thanks again for taking the time to post your comments, we are very grateful.

I hope you have made a full recovery

Best wishes

Esther
