"Rescheduling Appointments"

About: Basildon University Hospital

My teenage daughter has severe eczema. She was referred by the GP in Feb 2019.... An appointment was given for July 2019, this was then cancelled and rescheduled for September 19. The September 19 appointment was then cancelled and rescheduled for October 19. The October 19 was cancelled and rescheduled for March 20...surely !!!. All these cancellations by the hospital, while my daughters eczema is getting to the worst it has ever been. We then received a letter asking if we still needed the appointment....which was rescheduled to 11th February 20. With less than 2 weeks to the appointment date, the appointment was cancelled and rescheduled to the Brentwood Community Hospital for the 8th February 20, which was good. Only that they can only provide temporary measures (steroid tablets), even though my daughter said to the consultant that she gets rebound effects from using this medication each time it has been prescribed, so she was not keen on taking them. Now we have to wait even longer to get an appointment with Basildon hospital...as the community hospital can only do so much, she needs care from the hospital. This condition is depressing my daughter. Her school performance has drastically gone downhill, because she can't stand going to school with her skin like that. Such a poor appointment system.

Thank you for you review. We are so sorry that you have had cause to write about the cancellation of your daughter's appointments and that she was not happy with the treatment offered to her at Brentwood Community Hospital. Your comments have been forwarded to the team responsible for dermatology. We would ask that you contact our Patient Advice & Liaison Service (PALS) on 01268 394440 or email pals@btuh.nhs.uk and they will endeavour to investigate with the relevant teams.
