In September an ultrasound scan for gallstones at my GP practice revealed an unidentified lump. I was referred for an urgent CT scan at Good Hope which revealed a pheochromocytoma tumour near my left adrenal gland. This was referred to the Endocrinology team at Heartlands Hospital, who provided excellent treatment for my symptoms (mainly high blood pressure). I was then referred to QE for surgery to remove the tumour. This was carried out on 13th February. I have been very pleased with my treatment for this rare condition. The endocrinology team in particular were always ready to see me if I was unhappy with my symptoms, and the QE team who looked after me before, during and after surgery were excellent. The only negative feature of my treatment was coping with the outpatients system at the QE hospital. You obviously treat many hundreds of outpatients, so the department is usually very busy, and if anything untoward occurs, long delays can result. My pre-op appointment with my surgeon was delayed about three hours, due I believe to some other urgent matter occupying him. I am sure you do your best under extremely difficult circumstances. Thank you for sorting my problem out quickly and efficiently.
