"Paper diaries"

About: Specialist Therapy Services / Community Stroke Team – South Notts

(as a relative),

I am dismayed that the administrators of the outreach stroke service in Nottingham have banned the use of paper diaries by their staff. This has led to a missed appointment this morning when a planned visit by some of the excellent team supporting my wife post-stroke failed to arrive.

This is clearly a totally misguided action, I feel that it is failing to trust extremely well-qualified professionals to carry out their duties and effectively hampering the running of a high quality service.

Thank you for taking the time to submit your feedback for the Community Stroke Team, we welcome all feedback positive and negative. I am glad to hear that you think we have an excellent team, that you are getting good support for your wife and that you are receiving a high quality service.

I am sorry to hear that you feel the elimination of paper diaries is hampering the running of the service. In order to comply with Data Protection Act and protect our patients and staff from breached in Information governance, a decision was made to no longer support the use of paper diaries by community staff.

As we have been mobile working with laptops for a while, most staff are finding alternative ways of ways of ensuring that client information remains secure and using their electronic diaries.

We are aware that some staff are finding the move challenging and have ordered equipment and offered support to help work through the issues identified.

We will be issuing all staff with smart phones so that their diaries can be visible and easily accessible these are on order and we are awaiting delivery.

I hope this information is helpful. If you wish to contact me directly with any additional detail to enable us to discuss further, then please don't hesitate. You can get me on 0115 883 5060 or by email at claire.lee@nottshc.nhs.uk

We have since issued all the staff with smart phones and have progressed significantly in digital technology over the last year. This was always planned but was pushed forward due to the global pandemic. The team are better equipped to manage their diaries and caseloads, mobile working with laptops and smartphones.

Kind Regards
