"I could not fault anything"

About: University Hospital Hairmyres / Emergency Department University Hospital Hairmyres / Trauma & Orthopaedics (Wards 1 & 5)

(as the patient),

I had a fall in a hotel while celebrating my 70th Birthday.  We had come to the end of the afternoon and were preparing to go home. I missed a step down and landed heavily on my left arm resulting in a severe fracture of my wrist.

I was taken to A&E in Hairmyres Hospital in the afternoon one day mid December 2019. Although the waiting room was busy, the staff could see I was in a great deal of pain and I was fast-tracked through the system and was x-rayed and seeing a consultant within about half an hour.

All of the staff who dealt with me were very pleasant, efficient and helpful.

I was given initial treatment to re-align the fracture and told to return the next day for surgery.  I was in hospital overnight and received excellent care.

My main reason for writing:- I suffer from Parkinson's and was so impressed by the care that was taken, especially by the theatre staff to ensure my medication was available on time.   When I came out of theatre, my medication was due within ten minutes.  The staff had obtained the tablets from my locker (as planned before I was taken to theatre) and they were given at the exact time they were due.   They were obviously aware of the importance of Parkinson's medication being taken on time.

Overall, I could not fault anything about the care I was given and would like to put on record my deepest thanks to all involved, from my A&E admission to my discharge, and including the after care at the fracture clinic. I was not able to get the names of those involved, but I was in Ward 5 and one of the consultants was Mr Gee.

Dear Hollyjen,

Thankyou for taking time to post on care opinion. We are always grateful for feedback.

I am sorry to learn of your accident and it must have been an anxious time for you. I am delighted that you have had such a positive experience from the emergency department right the way through to your care on the ward.

It is often a stressful time coming for unscheduled surgery and the theatre team do all they can to ensure that your worries are allayed and your feel as relaxed and supported as possible.

I trust that you are recovering well at home and I will pass on your kind thanks to the teams involved

Best wishes

Fiona
