"There was no doctor available to prescribe the medication"

About: Royal Bolton Hospital / General medicine

(as a relative),

My father was first admitted on Thursday evening.  On Friday he was found to have low sodium levels.  He was then admitted to B2 Ward.  This is perhaps the worst ward I have been in.  No facilities like TV or phone for the patients.  The low sodium levels cause hallucinations which happened to my father.  We had to chase nurse constantly to get doctor's attention.  Why wasn't he treated right away?  As it was on the weekend, there was no doctor available to prescribe the medication and was only available remotely at certain times.

While the staff were polite and hard working they were seriously understaffed.  The nurses didn't seem to have a clue about the medicines they are giving.  They look it up on a computer and when that goes down they don't give it as it happened to my father.  It is only when we chased it up with the nurse that found out the system went down and they didn't get the medication from the pharmacy.
