"Inadequate Availability"

About: City Hospital (Birmingham)

Having been referred in early October 2019, and had an appointment for November cancelled at very short notice, I finally received an appointment for Sunday 23 February. Contrary to expectations, the appointment was to take place at a Health Centre in a rough area of Birmingham. As I am in my mid-sixties and unsteady on my feet, I was not prepared to attend at this place and phoned for an alternative, preferably at the hospital site. I was then told, the first available appointment would be 'towards the end of March' - meaning I would be lucky to be seen within six months of the original referral. I have, therefore, withdrawn from this referral and will go back to my GP to discuss other options. My advice to anyone looking to book an appointment at Birmingham Skin Centre is don't even try - a complete waste of my own, and my GP's time.

I am sorry to hear of your difficulty in securing an acceptable appointment at The Birmingham Skin Centre. Unfortunately it is not always possible to rearrange appointments close to the original date and our team will try to utilise our partner clinics where appropriate so you are seen as early as possible. Should you require assistance in getting to our partner clinics or our hospitals in the future, you may (depending upon your condition) be able to arrange transport with Patient Transport Services. You can find more information about this here: https://www.swbh.nhs.uk/patients-visitors/while-you-are-here/patients/patient-transport-services/. We will pass on your feedback to the team so this can improve appointments in the future. Kind regards, Dr David Carruthers, Medical Director.
