"Waiting times and lack of communication"

About: Queen Elizabeth University Hospital Glasgow / Gynaecology (Ward 49)

(as the patient),

Have been attending the Urogynaecology department at QEUH over a number of years. Communication is seriously lacking between departments and between consultant and patient as Doctor does not write to patients after appointments. We're just expected to remember every detail of said appointment. Saw physio 4 months after my child's birth then waited another 5 months of waiting to find out my referral back to Uro was never processed. Then got an appointment for 8 months later. Complained to health board and appointment was brought forward. Waited 3 months for a referral to another Doctor for investigative tests under anaesthetic. Received letter to say I was added to General surgery waiting list and that the Treatment Time Guarantee of 12 weeks couldn't be met and to expect it to be nearer 29 weeks. This is just for tests before I go for any surgery.

All in I expect this is going to take about another 2-3 years (at least) before I get surgery so am just expected to carry on until then.

I understand the NHS is under pressure but this is completely unacceptable to expect people just to put their lives on hold until treatment.

Dear Loulou82

I am sorry to hear about your experience within the Uro Gynaecology service. I would very much like the opportunity to investigation the circumstances around the lack of communication between yourself and all the other services you have been in contact with. I will also review the timeline for appointments between specialties.

I would be grateful if you would send me your CHI number and I will review and fully investigate your patient journey.

I look forward to hearing from you.

Katie McEwan

Clinical Service Manager
