"Maternity care"

About: Aberdeen Maternity Hospital / Obstetrics (Maternity care)

(as the patient),

When my partner and I found out we were expecting our 1st child we were delighted, but unfortunately the next 2 weeks I was so sick that I ended up being admitted for 8 hours to treat Hyperemesis Gravidarum, I was 8 weeks pregnant now the day staff on Rubislaw Ward were incredible.

There was a member of staff who was brilliant too even though she wasn't directly looking after me, she took time to chat & have a laugh it was ace. Then the 2 Doctors that looked after me, were brilliant despite one covering 4 wards who took time to chat & felt so at ease, the other doctor who had put my cannula in and checked everything again.

Now let's get to the nightshift team, the midwife that night was quite abrupt, her manner was making me uneasy as if I shouldn't have been there suggesting that I didn't really need to be there.  I replied it was the Consultant who admitted me.  Needless to say it was upsetting. But the midwives attitude changed when I was allowed home she couldn't do enough, my partner & I were a little upset at the treatment from midwife, let's get to another member of staff she was very abrupt & extremely unhelpful and seemed to be more interested sitting at the desk talking about personal life, I had been asked to give a urine sample which I did, I had asked the this member of staff if she could help me to take it to the sluice due to difficulties I had.  This member of staff said no and carried on chatting about her life at desk. With great struggle I managed, my partner was not happy at all as I was absolutely exhausted from being sick and this. I hope that I'm never admitted to the ward when these 2 members of staff are on.

May I add I'm a Nurse myself, I understand the stress and tiredness of the job but the 2 staff on nightshifts behaviour wasn't pleasant at all.

Dear Pregnant woman,

Thank you for getting in touch and for providing such lovely feedback for the staff that you saw initially, however it is disappointing that the staff on the night shift let the team down.

I will be sharing your feedback with the area and hopefully this will allow the team to understand where improvements can be made.

May I wish you well for the rest of your pregnancy.

Kind Regards

Liz
