I had a consultation in Sept 2019 and was advised I needed a hip replacement but that the waiting list was 10-11 months. When asked if I would go to another hospital or take a cancellation, I said yes. Fast forward to January 2020 I received a phone call fro IRH advising slots were available in February 2020 at Golden Jubilee in Clydebank, would I still be okay to go there? I said yes, absolutely. They told me I would get a call from GJ to advise of a date for a pre-op assessment within a couple of weeks. By the end of January, I had heard nothing so, called IRH again. I was told just to wait because GJ would have to vet the list they had been given to see if they fit their criteria and would then transfer me to their list, if suitable. Not to worry though they'd be in touch and I was still on the IRH waiting list. By the beginning of February, having still not heard anything, I contacted the Booking Office at Golden Jubilee to be told they had no referral, they had never heard of me and that IRH should have sent the referral to them and I'd not been included in their February list. On calling back to IRH, the secretary advised that her manager should have done the referral but it couldn't have been done. On asking what could be done now - you can complain.
I can't adequately put into words the disappointment I feel. I am in constant pain and at 47 years old struggle to carry out basic daily tasks without help. When I thought I would need to wait 11 months, whilst it seemed a long wait I had gotten my head around it. To then be offered the hope that an end could be insight was just amazing. So to have had that taken away simply because someone didn't do their job is beyond devastating. So now I face having to wait, who knows how long and have little faith in this system. Might they forget to contact me when I do eventually get to the top of the list?
