"The quick response made a world of difference."

About: Lothian Community Services / Speech and Language Therapy

(as a relative),

My father, who had Parkinson’s Disease, gradually developed problems with swallowing and his GP referred him to SALT. When his swallow got suddenly worse, the GP escalated the referral to “ urgent” and, to our amazement we were contacted the next morning ( a Friday) by a therapist who came immediately. Lucy was excellent in all that she did. The fact that she responded so quickly made a world of difference to what turned out to be my dad’s end of life care. She confirmed the problem which then allowed his GP to discuss ongoing treatment v palliative care with dad. This then allowed everything to be organised for end of life care at home and the whole system kicked into place fantastically with amazing care from district nurses and Marie curie nurses
