"Good practice"

About: Epsom and St Helier University Hospitals NHS Trust

Hi

I have been meaning to share my experience at the Acute medical units. I stayed there 5nights in may 2019. I had trimallealolar fracture. The nursing team was super amazing. they were attentive and compassionate about their work. Every one made it special whether male or female, cleaner or nurse. It was uplifting to see that. I only had tough time with one shift. The dynamic between them was not right. It was the second day after my operation and I had unbearable pain. They were ignoring my request to see a Dr. When finally a Dr came, he didn’t take me seriously and asked me what to do! I didn’t know what to say. I was in such a pain that i couldn’t think . so he left without any solutions. I thought that may be my pain is just a normal result of the operation. So may be I ll feel better the following day. The next morning a physio therapist asked me to stand up without putting a pressure on my foot. I did as I was told but then my pain got much worse. It was unbearable. I felt I was going to have a stoke in my leg. This time another Dr came with a team of students , and when he saw me in such a pain, he immediately opened the cast and that was it. my pain just stopped straight away. That moment is unforgettable. I can’t thank him enough. My foot was swollen and there was a red ring on my ankle from the pressure. I had 9nails and the pressure made it worse. I just needed a different kind of a cast. It was such a relief that I even manage without any pain killers. regardless of my bad experience with one shift I’m grateful to the service I received at st Helier hospital
