Yesterday I was in Monklands accident emergency with a family member when I witnessed the most undignified, unprofessional and down right ignorance of a staff nurse regarding a patient.
I have been in healthcare a very long time and have worked in busy departments like this one so I know how hard and stressful the job can be at times.
There is no words or excuses for the way a nurse treated a patient in front of others in my eyes!
I was in ear shot of a nurse belittling a patient, speaking to them in a manner to which no person should be spoken to, especially by someone in a position to help others.
Statements along the lines of “I’m sick of her” , “I hate this place because of people like her” “I’m not doing anything for you because it’s a waste of my time”
Not only did I hear this nurse moan for the full time I was in nearby but I also know quite a lot about their colleagues they do and don’t not like, their person life and how they feel about management.
Again I understand people have hard days and that’s understandable but when your holding a sick child and this is what you hear knowing it is very wrong I have to voice my complaint.
I was so enraged with the whole situation I took it upon myself to ask the receptionist what this nurse was called. My advice to you is.. i think a little discretion can go a long way. Please be mindful other patients and family members have ears and know right from wrong. And in this case you are in the wrong with the attitude you carry.
