"Couldn't see my grand child"

About: University Hospital Wishaw / Maternity Care (Wards 21-24)

(as a relative),

I would like to complain regarding hours of visiting. My grand daughter was born in the evening at the end of January, at Wishaw General. I was looking forward to go up and see my new and first granddaughter in the morning as I work back shift from 2.30pm till 10.30pm, but was told that the visiting hours where 3pm to 5pm and 6pm to 8pm. I only wanted to see my wee granddaughter for 10 mins I just can't understand these rules.

Dear jb2020,

Thank you for taking the time to write to us and tell us about your experience here in our Maternity Unit.

Firstly can I congratulate you on the birth of your granddaughter. It is such an exciting time and understandably so important for you to visit her for the first time.

I am deeply sorry that you were not allowed in to visit at what is such a special time for you and your family.

We are reviewing our visiting policy as we welcome and value visitors, family centred care is so important to us and we recognise that the previous visiting policy does not support this. I hope this reassures you that visiting will be welcomed within our unit to ensure families have that special time together.

Kind regards,

Leah Noble
