"Cognitive Awareness Classes"

About: Lings Bar Hospital Nottinghamshire Healthcare NHS Foundation Trust / Mental Health Services for Older People – Community (County)

(as a carer),

My husband was reluctant to attend cognitive awareness classes at first but eventually came to quite enjoy them. I think he thought that the other members of the group were affected by their dementia and that he wasn't and he, therefore, enjoyed talking to the staff and was sure that he was having a "normal" conversation. He was also very proud of the fact that he could get to the classes by himself on the local bus.

I wish now that there was some part of "follow on" actually at the same venue, i.e. perhaps a memory cafe, because if he believed that it was part of his treatment he would still attend. He will take advice from the professionals far more than he will from me.

Hi

Thankyou so much for taking the time to feedback to the team. It is always lovely to hear that our attendees have enjoyed and found the groups useful. I will ensure that the whole team receive the feedback.

We will take your comments regarding memory cafe's and further groups to feed in as part of our ongoing development work.

Once again thankyou.

Jayne Gething (Team Leader) on behalf of Sarah Justice, Team Leader, Parkside Day Hospital, Lings Bar.
