I was recently referred to the hospital by my GP due to some waterworks issues. I was extremely anxious about both the procedures and the possible outcomes. I have not been in hospital since I was 8 years old(I'm now 66) so my memories of hospitals are fifty years old! I was given an appointment that was within 2 weeks of the referral: for an ultrasound investigation and a cystoscopy.
The appointments were first thing in the morning and I was well prepared as the paperwork I had received from the hospital was clear and comprehensive. All my interactions with hospital staff, from those directly involved in my procedures to a cleaner who explained where I needed to go, were cheerful, helpful and certainly helped to relax my high sense of anxiety.
We here stories of patients spending endless hours in waiting rooms but this was not my experience. My first appointment was at 8.30am and was seamlessly followed by the next and I left the hospital at 9.45am.
I remember the "hospital atmosphere" and smell from visits as a child, but thankfully this is very mush a thing for the past. The facilities were welcoming, clean and not like my memories of hospitals.
As we all get older the likelihood is that we will have more hospital visits as time passes. I do feel less concerned by that possibility as I now feel reassured that I will be treated with care, professionalism in a warm and friendly environment. Well done Musgrove.
