"The therapies gave me respite and a chance to relax"

About: Kilbryde Hospice

(as the patient),

I have recently completed a block of Complimentary Therapy sessions after the death of my husband.

My primary therapist Louise has provided me with emotional  support and an excellent level of care.  This has enabled me to speak about how difficult it is to cope without him and how I can adapt to my changed circumstances.  The therapies gave me a short respite from stress and a chance to relax ( A few minutes at a time) in a very calm environment.

I was very low and constantly questioning what I had or hadn’t done when I began this experience but have been able, after the 6 sessions, to realise I need to be a bit kinder to myself.   Although the physical aspect of the treatments have been relaxing it has been the empathy which has been the most important for me.

Dear Day by day

I am very grateful to you for posting your story on Care Opinion. As Clinical Services Manager of Kilbryde Hospice I am aware of how beneficial complementary therapies are to patients in our care however I am delighted this service was available to you. I imagine that life must be very difficult for you at the moment without your husband and adapting to these changes. Care from our complementary therapist, Louise, specifically for you, is well deserved and it sounds as though you are taking time to be "kinder" to yourself. Keep that up.

I will be certain to feedback your very positive words to Louise and the rest of the complementary therapy team. This will be a huge boost to them.

Take care of yourself in the coming months. We have just started a bereavement cuppa on a Wednesday morning from 1130- 1230 here in the hospice. You are most welcome to join us for that.

Kind regards

Margaret Mary Cowan

Clinical Services Manager
