"I found this unprofessional"

About: New Stobhill Hospital / Skye Unit (Glasgow Adolescent Inpatient Unit)

(as a service user),

I was distraught to overhear a staff member imitate the accent of another staff member who is not from the UK, in I felt a mocking manner, when they were not present. I found this unprofessional and racist.

Dear Feedback2020

I am extremely disappointed to read your post and can assure you that this is not the type of behaviour we would expect from our staff. All patients should be treated with dignity and respect, please accept my apologies for your experience.

I have raised your concerns with the Management Team responsible for Skye House as this behaviour is not acceptable, and have asked that they respond to your concerns.

Kind Regards

Nicole

Dear Feedback2020

This is unacceptable and does not meet the values we hold or expect of our team.

Our action plan is to work with all staff teams on shift and 9 – 5 work patterns this week to share your feedback, reflect on dignity at work and values of the organisation and team, and reflect how our colleagues from other ethnic backgrounds would feel to be spoken of in this way. Our team development days are coming up and values is one of the areas we are addressing so we will use that opportunity to develop the values we should uphold and model.

If you would like to discuss this further please contact me at Andrea.Blair@ggc.scot.nhs.uk

Kind Regards

Andrea Blair
