Very good care from Consultants in Fracture Clinic after breaking my ankle. When I had plaster cast removed I was not given any advice on when to start walking, or exercises and was told I would be referred for Physiotherapy. I heard nothing, so after 3 weeks rung Physio Department to be told I had not been referred!! I eventually got an appointment but had been walking on my foot not knowing if I was doing right or wrong. Also, during my treatment I had to have daily VTE prophylaxis injections for 6 weeks. Trying to dispose of these used needles was a nightmare, we did not know what to do with them. We took them to Barnet Hospital Pharmacy, our Doctors, local Pharmacy and local Community Hospital, none of these would take these from us for correct disposal. We then went to our local Council Offices for help and was told to just leave them at the bottom of our drive and someone would come out sometime during the day to collect them!!!!! Disgraceful, apart from fact it is waste of NHS money to send a driver and van to pick them up, it is a danger, anybody could pick them up.
"Good care whilst being treated, but bad aftercare!"
