"Hysteroscopy, biopsy and mirena fitted."

About: Lincoln County Hospital / Gynaecology

(as the patient),

After a year of heavy persistent bleeding, I was referred to Lincoln where I was advised that the best course of action would be to change my coil to the Mirena coil and that I should also have a hysteroscopy and biopsy. I was given basic leaflets about the Mirena and the hysteroscopy and nothing regarding the biopsy. When my appointment came I was a little apprehensive about the biopsy.

The amazing team on Branston ward were fantastic and really reassured me by fully explaining everything to me. Nicky, Jen and Jess introduced themselves to me and explained their roles during the procedure. Nicky went over the consent form with me and told me how each part of the procedure would be done. She was also very clear that I could stop at any time and that if for any reason the procedure could not be completed I could return under GA another time. They were kind, considerate and at every stage of the procedure Nicky asked if I was ok before moving on to the next step, she also checked that Jen was happy that I was ok to continue. I was able to see the pictures from the camera which helped distract me. Afterwards I was encouraged to sit up gradually and stay on the bed with a drink. Once I was dressed and ready to leave I was taken to sit quietly with my husband and Jen made me a lovely cup of tea with a biscuit. I definitely needed the tea and short rest afterwards and have been fine for the rest of the day. During the procedure I had occasional twinges of cramping pain and have had period type cramps on and off since but that is normal for me at the moment. Before I left I was given further information about the Mirena and a dedicated phone number if I need to contact the team at all. I was told that I would be contacted with the results from the biopsy. I would like to thank Nicky, Jen and Jess for their excellent care and genuine kindness. I would recommend the team on Branston ward to anyone needing these procedures.

Dear Mi77,

Thank you so much for taking the time to leave feedback for the team, after your recent visit to the Gynaecology Outpatients Department at Lincoln County Hospital.

I am pleased to read that you felt you were cared for with kindness, consideration and felt reassured.

As a team we are passionate about providing a patient centred compassionate service to those who attend our clinics, and it is heartening for the whole team when we receive such positive feedback, and really gives the team a welcome boost to morale.

I will ensure that I discuss with Sister Holvey, and the doctors who carry out these procedures your feedback around not having much information about the biopsy. We aim to make our verbal and written information as informative as possible and review the leaflets regularly,so will ensure your feedback is taken into consideration for this.

Thank you once again for taking the time to leave your kind comments - I will ensure that they are passed onto the whole team, in particular to the Nurse Hysteroscopist- Sister Nicky Holvey and the nursing team you have taken the time to name personally.

kind regards

Debbie Richards
