"Cancelled appointment"

About: Crosshouse Hospital / Day Surgery

(as the patient),

I am really upset.   I was telephoned on Monday this week and offered a cancellation place for my minor operation within the day surgery which I accepted.   My appointment has been cancelled at 9. 30 am this morning Monday which is less than 2 hours before my operation was due to take place due to a bed shortage.   My husband works away from home in the Borders and he has taken time off work and come home to accommodate my operation and look after me.   His work, my work, family and friends have all gone out of their way to accommodate and help me accept the cancellation appointment and with days off to recuperate.   I am so angry and upset.

I so sorry you are so upset about the cancellation of your appointment and I really do understand why. I sorry that we ever have to cancel any appointments, however, frequently at this time of the year we are faced with emergency and urgent situations that take priority. I realise this is not helpful to you and it doesn't change the fact that you will have had many arrangements to make prior to your procedure.

I would just like to reiterate my sincerest apologies. If you wish you could contact the consultants secretary direct and enquire again the possibility of another cancelation, however, as you have already experienced there is no guarantee.

I really hope you get your operation soon, all the best for you onward recovery.
