"Antenatal appointments and care"

About: Aberdeen Maternity Hospital / Obstetrics (Maternity care) Inverurie Hospital / Midwifery

(as the patient),

Hayley is the most caring and sweet midwife I've come across.

The day of our first antenatal appointment we were very late as we weren't told the correct location. Anyway, when we got there her shift was ending in literally 5 minutes. Had she told us sorry and rescheduled I would've completely understood as it wasn't really her fault. Instead she met us with the biggest most warm smile on her face which instantly put us at ease as we were worried we didn't have enough time to have everything ready before the baby came.
She led the way to her office where she took a complete and full medical history, made sure I was caught up on things like antenatal classes, brochures, singing up for the Baby box and all that we've missed as we have just moved to Scotland and I was already 8 months pregnant.
After I gave birth and she came for Day 10 home visit she asked how I was adjusting in a tone that reflected genuine care and interest. I hadn't had the best birth experience and as I was telling her about what had happened she was very supportive and apologetic even though it wasn't her fault!
She is well informed and answered all questions we had and addressed all concerns we had- I have minor health issues and didn't know how my body would respond to birth.
As this happened November I'm sure I left a lot out and I know I'm not doing her justice but she truly is an outstanding midwife!

Dear SuMay,

Firstly congratulations on the birth of your baby and taking the time to provide such positive feedback for Hayley, this will be shared with her.

I must also apologise that your birth experience wasn't the best and if you wish to discuss this further please email nhsg.womens.services@nhs.net

May I wish you and your family all the best for the future.
