About: Nevill Hall Hospital / Gynaecology

(as the patient),

I recently underwent day surgery for a Gynae procedure. I was seen for my initial appointment with the gynaecologist within weeks of my GP's referral. I then had my Pre Op a few weeks later and my surgery was scheduled shortly after. The staff at all levels from start to finish were outstanding and an absolute credit to their profession.

On the day of my surgery itself I had my procedure explained to me thoroughly by the Consultant, and was seen by the anaesthetist. Both explained the procedure thoroughly and found the time to answer my questions.

I was then given a bed, and the nurse Hayley chatted to me and explained the process etc. The student Nurse again was brilliant at making me feel at ease whilst she took my obs. Nothing was too much trouble.

It was obvious to see that the staff were under pressure, they work long shifts and with very limited resources but at every stage of the way they took their time when dealing with a various mix of patients on a full ward. They really should be congratulated on the work they do whilst maintaining a smile. I absolutely couldn't fault them.

I did feel annoyed when other patients at times I felt made unnecessary demands and had unrealistic expectations of very busy clinical staff who were helping them by attending to them on wards when they were obviously needed elsewhere in the hospital. I just wish people could see that the NHS is at breaking point and demanding processes and procedures happen as to when you think they should rather than when there is time is unfair and places additional pressures on staff.

I really cannot fault the staff on ward 2/4 and all of the staff in Pre Op. You are amazing. Thank you
