"Discharged only wearing a hospital gown"

About: Dumfries & Galloway Royal Infirmary / Combined Assessment Unit

(as a friend),

An almost 80 year old gentleman was in the Combined Assessment Unit at Dumfries & Galloway Royal Infirmary. It was decided by them around lunch time he was going to be discharged, I had removed the key for his property from the key safe for security reasons as his property was sitting empty & I was at work that day which caused them a problem as they were desperate to get him discharged that afternoon & I was made to feel like I was wrong for removing his key when really I was just keeping his property secure not expecting to get no notice of his discharge. I had to leave work early to meet the ambulance transport they had arranged but was absolutely disgusted to find he had been discharged only wearing a hospital gown, this was 5pm at night so dark & it was the night of the heavy rain & winds. This gentleman had a bag with 3 sets of clean clothes in & 3 sets of clean pyjamas with him but it was seen fit to discharge this elderly man in only a hospital gown that is open at the back. He lives on a busy street & this was very embarrasing for him never mind the health implications this may have had on him
