"AVOID IF YOU HAVE MENTAL HEALTH problems"

About: Deben Road Surgery

I have been with this surgery for over a year, but just had the worst experience ever! I am under the mental health but due to constant mix ups with my medications I had to attend an appointment today with a GP from the surgery who was patronising, belittling and rude. Firstly told me I had no diagnosis of bipolar! Shocked that my own surgery does not know that, which started the appointment on the wrong foot. The GP then queried every one of my medications and complained to me that I was on a lot of addictive medications, even though it's the GPs that have had me on half of them for the past 2 years, before I even got taken on my the mental health team! We agreed that there should be a chaperone present, but I didn't realise it would be a young receptionist who obviously automatically sided with the GP and told me I was the rude one even though they had no prior knowledge of the conversation. I was told about the zero tolerance policy, even though I made zero threats (never would or have!) and didnt raise my voice. The only thing I done was calmly tell the GP that the way they were condesendingly speaking down to me is shocking, and I parroted back the way I was being spoken to. I was told to leave which I gladly did and will not be attending again. You would get treated with ALOT more respect if you get an appt with a Nurse Practitioner at this practice who knows how to actually speak to people.

This surgery likes to keep complaints in house and tells you that you must complain directly through the practice manager, this is however not the case. You can contact NHS England on 0300 311 2233 or by emailing England.contactus@nhs.net stating 'FAO of Complaint' in the title of the email if you do not feel that you can contact the surgery direct. I am now waiting for a call back from the mental health team to see if they can finally sort out my medications so that I do not have to go through this nightmare again. The practice will comment on this post shortly stating they are sorry there has been a problem and to contact the practice manager, no thank you! What is the point of contacting a biased manager who will automatically side with their GPs! I have never been abusive or kicked out of a drs ever and I am almost 40 years old. I know how to speak to people, and would only ever speak rude to somebody that speaks rudely to me. I have been very frustrated when my medications have been messed up. I will NOT tolerate being spoken to like a child by a GP that had no clue how to speak to an adult with respect!

I was told that because that because the GP works with Alzheimer's patients and I only have bipolar I should be responsible and be able to know exactly when to order my medications and exactly how much I have left. I am on approx 10 medications per day, some ordered weekly and others monthly.
