I was admitted in early January 2020 onto the main assessment ward with a chest infection. A very busy Doctor told me that I would be admitted to a care of the elderly ward which left me very sad. I then met a kind nurse who was the first person to ask me what I wanted. He listened to me explain I had carers and wanted home.
I'm limited with my mobility have a catheter and he took the time to explain my blood tests and xray results, I wont forget how he reassured me saying home was best and he would make every effort for me to get home.
And he did! He arranged for some charming physiotherapists to get me up and about, he checked on me for two days and on the morning of the 3rd day he arranged an ambulance crew to visit me on the ward and agree how to get me home on a stretcher. To top it all he arranged a visit from a lovely nurse the first day I was home, in his words to make sure I stayed at home and never meet him again!
I would be happy to meet him again, I type this from home rather than languishing in a hospital bed. Bravo NHS Dumfries Infirmary!
