"Heart failure and resuscitation"

About: Golden Jubilee National Hospital / Interventional Cardiology Queen Elizabeth University Hospital Glasgow / Cardiology (Heart Conditions) Wards 6c & 6d Scottish Ambulance Service / Emergency Ambulance

(as the patient),

Early one October morning, having suffered a heart attack, I was resuscitated at home by paramedics and then taken by ambulance to QEUH and had to be resuscitated again in the ambulance on the way there. My only memory of that journey was of a female paramedic’s excited reaction at having “brought me back”. I was her first- she sounded so delighted.

On the operating table in the Jubilee Hospital I was once more shocked back to life then had 2/3 stents inserted into my 35 year old triple bypass ( done at the Western Infirmary). I owe my life to these dedicated workers. Within a week I was up and about and home, due to an “exceptional recovery” from what “not many survive”. Thanks to all staff, ambulance drivers, paramedics, doctors, nurses, auxiliaries, surgeons etc.

This wonderful NHS of ours requires active participation by both staff and patients.
We all have our part to play, many find fault, complain and abuse the system. It may not be perfect but it is extremely effective! We are very fortunate to have it and must protect it.

Dear Torrie,

Thank you so much for taking the time to share your feedback with us all on CareOpinion. What a frightening experience for you but what a wonderful story. A lot of my responses are relatively consistent on CareOpinion but I am a little lost for words at this one. Your words are so kind and it is so good to hear that everything worked so well in such a difficult situation. I would love to be able to share your story with the staff and let them know what a wonderful job they did. Would you be able to email scotamb.feedback@nhs.net and provide more details, specifically the date and time we attended along with the address and your name. That way I will be able to locate the job and the crew. If you could also reference your CareOpinion username that would be most helpful so that I can easily link it back.

I wish you all the very best in your recovery and have a great 2020!

Thanks

Alan
