About: Pinderfields General Hospital

My husband who has lung cancer and pulminory fibrosis was taken to A & E by ambulance at 1am on 31st December with pain and vomiting around his hernia. It was a very busy night and he was not seen by the Dr until 9am, following which he was sent for x-ray. He was then left waiting for a bed in SAU, finally being transferred at around 9.30pm. He was then left still on the hospital trolley until around 5pm the next day when he was finally transferred to Gate 32A and given a hospital bed, a few hours short of 48 hours on a hospital trolley. He was sent home on Friday 3rd January and has been ill with coughing and fatigue since. Surely it is totally unsatisfactory that a patient with such critical health issues has to endure such a traumatic experience. We know this will not be the last time he will have to be admitted through A & E and as this has happened before absolutely dread having to go through this experience again.

Thank you for taking the time to post your comments regarding your recent experience.

I was really disappointed to hear of your recent experience within Pinderfields Hospital. Please accept my apologies as this is not the standards of care we continuously strive to deliver to our patients. I can only imagine how distressing this must have been for you all and again I am sincerely sorry for your experience.

We have been seeing a huge influx of patients at our hospitals over the Christmas and New Year period which regrettably, causes a knock on effect and delays within the hospital. Staff do their best to overcome these delays, but it is not always possible.

I note from your posting that your husband is still unwell and therefore, suggest he visits his GP for advice/treatment.

Thank you again.

Kind regards

Clare Blackburn
