"poor duty of care "

About: Bewicke Medical Centre

My wife has been unwell for around 9 days now and in that time her conditon has not improved. Stool samples were brought to your surgery on Thursday 2nd of January and was told the results would be back by Friday 3rd. Numerous phone calls made to surgery on Friday but no test results. Told to ring on Monday. On sunday the 5th January i requested an out of hours doctor to make a house call as my wifes condition was no better. He came , examined my wife and was very concerned at the issue of the consistant diarrhoea. Without any test results he was unable to give her any medication. Today Monday i have at last recieved the test results after numerous phone calls to the surgery. The results have come back normal , which is more concerning as my wife is no better . I have on two occasions today requested a call back from the duty docter to see what treatment i can give to help my wifes condition. Still waiting 2.50pm !!! . Your processes and proceedures are woefully inadequate . your failing in your duty of care to your patients. Please supply the contact details of the organisation who oversees your practice as i would like to make my views known to them.

Firstly we would like to apologise for the negative experience with the practice the concerns you have raised are very important. We appreciate that you were concerned about your wife's condition and that it was important for you to have the results from her sample as soon as possible. We are sorry if you were advised that the results of the sample would be back on Friday as results from samples can take up to 5 working days. The surgery had received the results from the lab and a request was sent through to the duty doctor on the Monday so they could report on them. As you may not be aware following the Christmas period the practice was extremely busy on the Monday, however I understand the Dr Petrie came to visit your wife at home that day and gave you a satisfactory explanation to the delay. If you wish to discuss this further please can you contact the practice direct. Thank you
