"Appalling "

I first started going to canada house back in March 2018. Having tried to commit sucide a few times. I went to Canada house after having a substance miss use problem. after going through a really tough time in my life back in Christmas 2017. My grandad died before Christmas and my best friend commuted sucide shortly after. I developed this drug problem. First being cocaine. Having thrown away my life to cocaine I developed an addiction to benzodiazepines (Xanax) over dose 3 times and was admitted to hospital on all three accessions. being referred to Canada house for mental health and drug abuse.... when I walked in Canada house the staff was friendly and made me feel welcome. I was then taken in to a consultation room. Where a doctor asked me of the problem that I am having. I explained the situation and told him what was going on. He then give me a prescription for dizipam the UK eqlivant of Xanax . Having supplied my problem with more drugs I was admitted to hospital for a fourth time after waking up with my girlfriend and two paramedics in my room. I have looked for Support all over regarding mental health and drug abuse. I really do think it’s bad the lack of support for mental health. I am still struggling but getting better every day

Thanks for sharing your experiences.

Although we are pleased to note you felt welcomed when attending Canada house we were sorry to hear that you do not feel there is sufficient support for people in your circumstances.

There is a regular local involvement event in North Kent, the North Kent Patient Consultative Committee which meets bi monthly, and it would be great if you wanted to join this meeting to discuss your views.

Further information can be seen on our web site at www.kmpt.nhs.uk/news-and-events/events

You can meet the manger at Canada House to talk through your concerns, please ask at reception for dates and times.

The Sunlight Centre in Gillingham has a well being cafe and other supportive services, 01634 581511 / info@sunlighttrust.org.uk
