My mum who was in ward 14 for her kidneys. I went to visit and when i entered the room what a fright i got,my mum was hanging over the bed guard in absolute agony with back pain. One of the visitors told me she had been like that for over 2 hours. She couldn't eat her dinner because of pain and they came back and took her dinner away. I also noticed her pyjamas were different trousers than her top. Her pyjama trousers were lying on the bottom of bed rolled up in a ball and soaking wet as she had had an accident. I had to lift them and put them in my bag.
I went to a nurse who said she already had her pain killers, I asked mum and she said she hadn't so I went back to another nurse who said she will find out if she had or not. On returning to us i was told another nurse had lifted the pain killers off the floor and put them in the bin. So why not give her more ? It took another 20 min to bring 2 paracetamol that didn't lift the edge of the pain. By this time it was a shift change.
The next shift came in and within an hour what a difference they had made to my mums pain. She was in pain from 5pm untill the next shift came in, I left at 9.45 pm worry free knowing my mum was in better hands with the nightshift nurses.
The day shift should be ashamed of themselves
