"What would I do without you?"

About: Purley War Memorial Hospital

I have ankylosing spondylitis (AS)

It is a chronic, incurable disease.

I have been treated by a wonderful rheumatologist, who steadfastly supported me for many years as AS has robbed me of my career, independence and physical mobility in exchange for 24/7 pain (except when I'm asleep) and clinging fiercely to the independence I still have.

I think I'm incredibly lucky to have such an empathetic, intelligent, fast-thinking consultant, who even understands that the only way I can deal with situation (apart from a lot of medication) is to find as many distractions as possible and maintain my sense of humour.

AS will never hit the headlines or tear at heartstrings.

But I am grateful that I have such an exceptional consultant on my side; despite the unwavering support of family and friends ( more reasons to be grateful).

I could say so much more, but thank you for everything will suffice, I hope.

PS. Being able to see my consultant at Purley Hospital instead of travelling to Mayday is also the cherry on the icing on the top of the cake, because I live in South Croydon.

Wheeling into an atmosphere of calm and friendly competence means a lot to me, too. Thanks again.
