"The care of my Dad"

About: Queen Elizabeth University Hospital Glasgow / Cardiology (Heart Conditions) Wards 6c & 6d Queen Elizabeth University Hospital Glasgow / Palliative Care Scottish Ambulance Service

(as a relative),

My dad is 87 years old and has been increasingly poorly over the last 6 weeks. His GP at Kessington medical practice has seen him on multiple occasions and organised fantastic support from community services. Recently his condition became worse so an ambulance was arranged to take him to the Queen Elizabeth hospital. I would like to call out the high quality of care he received from Martin and Alan who assessed his condition, treating him with true dignity and communicated with and supported the family. He was admitted to the Coronary Care unit as was showing signs of heart failure. Tests were quickly organised to get a proper diagnosis and treatment plan. Unfortunately his diagnosis was an advanced malignancy. While this has been incredibly difficult to hear, I cannot emphasise enough the high level of competence and compassion with which he has been communicated with and cared for. Medical and nursing staff in the QEUH have gone above and beyond to organise palliative care services and a timely discharge home so he can spend his time in a familiar setting with his family. All of this care is making a difficult time so much more manageable for him and his family. Thanks you.

Dear Gratified Daughter,

Thank you very much for taking the time to share your feedback on CareOpinion. I am sorry to learn of your fathers diagnosis. This must be a very difficult time for you and your family.

I am however very pleased to read about the care that your father and the family have received from all involved. It is always so lovely to hear about staff showing care and compassion to those who really need it and it making a difference.

I would like to thank you again and please send my thoughts to your father.

Kind Regards

Alan

Dear Gratified Daughter

Thank you for your kind words and feedback at what must be a very difficult time for you. I am glad your experience of the care in the QEUH has been so positive, despite the diagnosis your father received.

The Palliative Care Team work closely with teams across all wards in the Hospital, and I will pass on your thanks to the other doctors and nurses - it makes a real difference to hear such positive comments.

Please let me know if we can be of any more assistance.

Alistair
