My mum attended the Emergency Department late November. She had experienced an episode of collapse at home the previous day and had gone to her Gp surgery to make an appointment to be seen. She was told there were no appointments available and was advised to go to A & E. I work in the hospital and felt it was inappropriate for my mum to be advised to go to A & E as I am well aware of the pressure they are under constantly and people attending inappropriately. I have to say the care and attention she received was fantastic. The department was extremely busy as usual but at no time was I given the impression she should not have been there. In fact the staff were extremely professional and appeared to take pride in their work. She had a very thorough assessment to exclude cardiac cause or stroke and was put at ease and reassured. She has never been in hospital before (she is 78). I must mention Dr Theodor Octavian Oprea. His manner and professional approach was very impressive as was that of the nursing staff Lorraine, Lindsay and Hayley. They explained everything they were doing and asked her permission to do examination and checks etc These staff are a credit to the department. I felt the need to comment as unfortunately the staff do not get enough praise and are only told when things maybe don't go quite right.
"She had a very thorough assessment"
