"My dad's cancer diagnosis"

About: Ninewells Hospital Ninewells Hospital / Colorectal

(as a relative),

My dad was recently admitted to Ninewells Ward 8 via his GP with deranged bloods, secondary to what we suspected as food poisoning.  Within a week, my dad was diagnosed with advanced bowel cancer.  It was truly one of the most upsetting times of our lives as a family.  We were all devastated.  My dad was operated on at their earliest opportunity and is awaiting chemotherapy in the new year.

A special thanks to Mr Moses and his team.  Without his skills and expertise, things may have been different for my dad.  We are eternally grateful that this Christmas my mum still has a husband, my children still have their Grandad, and we still have our dad.

The nursing team were beyond amazing.  My dad was given the respect and privacy one would wish when given a cancer diagnosis.  He was given a side room whilst receiving bowel preparation and the CSWs were kind enough to make him warm tea and toast post procedures which he had been fasted for. To some, that may not seem like much but at a time filled with uncertainty and anxiety, it's the little things that matter most.

My dad went to several other wards during his stay. 4 in total. However Ward 8 sticks out for their kindness during a tough time.

Thank you to you all for caring for my Dad.

Dear Haymes,

Thank you so much for your lovely message. I will share it with Mr Moses and all the staff in ward 8. They will be very touched.

It is very kind of you to take the time to get in touch - especially when you have so much to deal with. It will be much appreciated.

I hope your Dad's treatment goes well and that he continues to have the best care possible.

Best wishes,

Stuart
